Right on schedule, Meizu has launched its latest smartphone, m5 Note, in China. Pricing of the m5 Note starts at 899 Yuan, which is Rs 8,800 approximately. The Meizu m5 Note with 3GB RAM and 16GB storage will be available for 899 Yuan, which is Rs 8,800 approximately. The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage will cost 999 Yuan and 1499 Yuan, Rs 9,870 and Rs 14,800 approximately. The smartphone will be available in China starting December 8 .The m5 Note is available in silver champagne gold, blue and grey color variants. Right now, there’s no word on the availability and pricing of the smartphone in markets outside China.
The smartphone is the successor to the m3 Note launched earlier this year. The main highlight of the m5 Note is the 4,000mAh battery. The Meizu m5 Note supports 18W fast charging that the company claims can fully charge the phone in just 90 minutes. Even with a big battery, the smartphone is 0.1mm thinner than its predecessor. The smartphone also comes with Meizu’s signature mBack fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button that can unlock the phone in just 0.2 seconds.
Alongside the m5 Note, Meizu has also launched a competition to the Fitbit and Mi Band. Called the Meizu bracelet, the fitness band is priced at 229 Yuan which is approximately Rs 2,200. The Meizu Bracelet comes with touch display screen, heart rate monitor, activity tracker. Talking about the design, the fitness band comes with a body design very similar to Fitbit with concealed OLED screen. The band also comes with feature to track your sleep and reminds you of timely relaxation during work hours. Meizu claims that the Bracelet is good enough to last up to 7 days of battery life on one full charge. Last, but certainly not the least, the Meizu bracelet comes with international IP67 waterproof and dust-proof standards.
Meizu m5 Note specifications
The Meizu m5 Note comes with 153.6×75.8×8.15mm dimensions and weighs 175 grams. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) LTPS 2.5D curved glass display with 1000: 1 contrast ratio. At the heart, the smartphone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with Mali T860 GPU paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM. It also comes with 16GB / 32GB and 64GB storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB with microSD.
On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, f/2.2 aperture. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4P lens. On the connectivity front, the smartphone supports 4G VoLTE, dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and hybrid dual-SIM (nano+nano/microSD). The smartphone runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Flyme OS 6.0 on top.
If launched in India in the same price range, the smartphone will face tough competition with the likes of Redmi Note 3 (32GB), Honor Holly 3 and Coolpad Note 5. The Redmi Note 3 features a 5.5-inch full HD display, 1.8GHz Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor, 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and dual-LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture up front. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, it runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 based MIUI 7. The Redmi Note 3 32GB model also comes with microSD support. It is powered by a 4,100mAh battery.
Priced at Rs 10,999, the Coolpad Note 5 flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display with 2.5D curved glass, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. On the photography front, the Note 5 is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. For selfie lovers, there is an 8-megapixel snapper with 80-degrees wide-angle lens, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. It comes with a fingerprint scanner placed at the back below the camera. It also comes with a 4,000mAh battery.
Pirced at Rs 9,999, the Honor Holly 3 smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD display. It is powered by a Kirin 620 octa-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. It has an onboard storage of 16GB, which can be expanded to 128GB using a microSD card. The Holly 3 sports a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front facing camera, both of which have an f/2.0 aperture. It also comes with 4G LTE, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Micro-USB v2.0, USB BT v4.0 with A2DP, EDR, BLE. The smartphone is powered by a 3,100mAh battery.
To put these leaked specs into perspective, the m3 Note was launched with a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display, 1.8GHz MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor, microSD card slot, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone comes with dual SIM, 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Flyme OS 5.1.
